FIFTY-FOUBTH ANNUAL PUBLICATION,

EDINBURGH: PRINTED BY BALLANTYNE AND COMPANY.

PRICE FIVE SHILLINGS.

NOTICE.

The Proprietors of The Edinburgh and Leith Post-Off [CE Directory have ao-ain the honour of submitting to the Public another Volume of the Publication, being the Fifty-fourth ; and they avail themselves of the opportunity to express their grateful thanks for the kind support and patronage which they have received, hoping their exertions to make the Publication both correct and useful will be followed by a continuance of the favour of the Public. The Map has been revised ; to which is now appended an Alphabetical List of the Streets and Public Buildings in Edinburgh, with reference thereto. An Alpha- betical List of the Names of Persons in the County Directory, following the plan of last year of giving each Post-Town in detail under its separate head, is continued. The Hackney- Coach List has also been revised and enlarged ; all which, it is hoped, will add to the usefulness of the Publication.

Explanation'.— Tn the Left-hand Table are the years of the Century, and above each is the Dominical Letter corresponding with that Year. Then, opposite to the Month, at the foot of the Right-hand Table, will be found a corresponding Letter, over which are placed the Days of the Month and Week for that Month (distinguishing the Sundays by a different type). Each Blank Space in the Left-hand Table shows the year following to be Leap Year; and as every Leap Year has two Dominical Letters, the Letter above the Blank Space must be used for January and February in every Leap Year, and for the other months, use the Letters belonging to the respective Years.

Cy transposing the Dominical Letters, this Calendar would answer for any Century.
